Sarai Givaty
"What the f@#k do you think I have in my bag?"
In an effort to secure the world against the evils of global terrorism, airport officials have subjected children, old ladies, the handicapped, and Israeli artists to rigorous and often embarrassing searches. What are these dangerous individuals carrying with them?
Sarai Givaty's digital images answer the irony of this question and explore a world where privacy is ignored in the name of safety. Since September 11th, our national security issues have not only assaulted our privacy while exposing our personal effects, but also endangered our humanity and freedom. Sarai merges the stark duality of seductively secret personal items with provocative, almost surreal images.
Her uncanny X-ray of contrasting personal private belongings unveils the public façade draped over our most confidential secrets. This exhibition allows you a glimpse of what airport Security Officers might see through the eyes of an artist... as sex, drugs, weapons, and gold are all decadently packed and vividly displayed, hidden within the confines of oversized luggage. Givaty asks, "What the f@#k do you think I have in this bag?" Now you know.
Exhibition will run 6th of October through the 5th of November 2007.
